In Abbottsford last week a 74 year old man was shot and killed during a targeted shooting at a neighboring house. A quote from Shiminder Sharma says the intended targets are "kids who are mostly left to do their own thing." What did their parents teach them and how will they feel when their kids end up in jail of the victims of the next attack?
What we teach our children starts at the earliest age and they learn even when we are not intentionally teaching them. Our conduct and what we permit also teaches them. Do we use hand held devices when driving,? Do we throw our buts out the window or on the ground, lie to our employers or allow our children to spend harmful amounts of time on electronic devices? Do we live harmful lifestyles and allow our children to partake? I am talking about drugs, alcohol, smoking and obesity here. Ever notice in Walmart that most of the obese shoppers with children have carts full of junk food and overweight kids? Ever heard of Alcoholism and drug addiction being passed on to the next generation. We teach them that.
What else are we teaching????????
Driving east on marine drive near Capillano Mall I needed to preform an emergency braking maneuver because a woman with two children jay walked right into traffic. I guess they felt they had a right of way to cross between intersections and that traffic would stop for them as long as they put out their arm. As she gave me the finger I couldn't help but wonder what she was teaching her children. Some times when I stop at an intersection next to me will be a car with a texting adult and children in the back seats, what are we teaching our children?
My two sons and I spent the long weekend at a BC provincial campsite and had a wonderful time hiking swimming and sitting around a campfire. While at the beach I observed a group of three Obese adults and three overweight children spread out on their chairs and towels. All three adults had large size bags of chips or snacks of some sort. They spent the afternoon giving the chips out to the children who not once went more than 20 ft from the food. What were they teaching their children?
Imagine a day when you are at the checkout and you cannot get a pack of smokes and a six pack because the checkout says you do not have enough breakfast staples for your kids!! How many bags of chips and boxes of crackers will have to go back when that same computer says your children need better quality food.
I speculate here that if we do not change our ways and the things we are teaching our children the government can and will step in within the next 20 years. They will do it with legislation not unlike seatbelt and helmet laws and age restrictions. We will be required to give our children adequate nutrition and it could be enforced by Checkouts recording the food we purchase and not allowing us to purchase what we want. They will introduce mandatory exercise by providing exercise equipment and tracking it like our smart meters. We will see children removed from homes because the threshold of what is considered abuse gets drastically changed. They can also do it through government programs and credits. Want anything from the government like schooling or healthcare then meet the requirements to receive those benefits.
I can see lots out there doubting this but it only makes sense, "read dollars".
Sick care is in crisis, eating up more of our tax revenues every day. With a growing obesity epidemic on the way, adult onset diabetes, heart disease and respiratory diseases the only way we can possibly sustain the system is by a massive overhaul of our individual health care (diet, exercise) or by refusing sick care to those who are not adequately participating in their own health.
With our children, we either teach them how to be law abiding, healthy, tolerant, and productive adults or the government will do it for us. The progression of legislative changes will be slow and steady, we will not notice the erosion but it will come none the less be warned.
20 years people, change or be forced to change.
